It seems that there is an important difference between a cattle drive and a cattle round up. It seems pretty simple once you think about it, before a cattle drive can take place the cattle must be found and rounded up.

This is easier said then done because often by the end of the summer the cattle are spread far and wide over many square miles of mountains and forest so that it can take days and even weeks of hard riding to locate and assemble most the cattle. In situations where the cattle are spread out over vast areas of uninhabited mountains and forest the round up has many of the aspects of a hunt as well as a drive and one must ride for miles through trackless wilderness to find small herds tucked away in remote forest clearings. Cattle drives can be thrilling as they offer the a challenging, and hard working equestrian experience on a so called "last cowboy" tradition. It is sad but true, the modern world has moved away from the traditions and on to modern methods of cattle production.
Jumping on what might be the last vestige in your life time, and most likely your children's and have a challenging, but very memorable time together riding, talking, and learning the art of the cattle round up.
